Wison Group and KBR Sign Strategic MoU to Explore Engineering and EPC Cooperation
Wison Group and KBR have signed a memorandum of understanding to explore project opportunities combining engineering execution, construction, advisory, design and technology capabilities.
On the opening day of Gastech 2026, Wison Group and U.S. engineering and technology-services company KBR signed a strategic memorandum of understanding to explore longer-term cooperation in engineering, advisory services and integrated project solutions. The memorandum establishes a collaboration framework; it is not a project award.
Under the proposed model, Wison may act as an engineering designer or EPC contractor on potential projects, while KBR may participate as an adviser and engineering partner. The companies intend to assess opportunities that combine Wison’s engineering execution and construction capabilities with KBR’s experience in project advisory, engineering design and technology solutions.
Potential for design-and-delivery collaboration
KBR has more than 50 years of experience in offshore-facility topsides engineering, spanning early concept studies, detailed design and construction support. Its reference base includes fixed production and wellhead platforms, semisubmersibles, FPSOs, FSRUs, FLNG facilities and floating ammonia production units. The framework could bring Wison’s execution and fabrication capabilities together with international engineering expertise earlier in the project chain.
Comparable delivery models have been used on international offshore projects. On BP-operated GTA, KBR was awarded an EPCM scope for facilities integration and jetty living-quarters and utilities management in 2019, while CIMC Raffles undertook EPC work for the jack-up living-quarters and utilities platform. KBR has said its engineering and project-management teams worked alongside CIMC Raffles during design and construction.
On the Bul Hanine offshore-field redevelopment in Qatar, COOEC is carrying out an EPIC package valued at about US$4 billion, while KBR was awarded detailed engineering in 2025. The project similarly illustrates a model in which a Chinese offshore contractor leads overall project delivery while an international engineering company provides specialised design support.
An extension of earlier engagement
Wison and KBR have worked together before. In 2017, Wison Offshore & Marine and KBR signed an exclusive memorandum covering a 1.5-million-tonne-per-annum FLNG project for Kumul Petroleum Holdings in Papua New Guinea. In April 2026, Wison Engineering and KBR also signed a strategic memorandum covering clean fuels, low-carbon chemicals and floating solutions.
No specific project, contract value or execution timetable has been disclosed for the latest memorandum. Whether the framework develops into project work will depend on project selection, technical configuration and commercial terms.
