Project Overview

GranMorgu is Suriname’s first offshore oil development. It will develop the Sapakara and Krabdagu discoveries in Block 58, approximately 150 km offshore in water depths of about 100 to 1,100 metres. TotalEnergies operates the development with a 40% interest; APA holds 40% and Staatsolie 20%. FID was taken in October 2024. Recoverable resources are estimated at close to 760 million barrels, total investment is approximately US$10.5 billion, and first oil is targeted for 2028.

FPSO and Construction Organization

The GranMorgu FPSO uses SBM Offshore’s eighth standardized Fast4Ward MPF hull. Technip Energies and SBM Offshore are jointly responsible for construction and installation. The hull is approximately 322 metres long and 60 metres wide, with design oil capacity of 220,000 bpd and storage of about two million barrels. The facility uses an all-electric-drive configuration, eliminates routine flaring and reinjects all associated gas.

Key Milestones

  1. Final investment decision

    The development moved into full execution with first oil targeted for 2028.

  2. Major engineering contracts awarded

    The FPSO, subsea-system iEPCI and SURF EPCI scopes entered execution.

  3. Construction started at three Chinese yards

    First steel was cut for the Tianjin modules, Nantong hull conversion and Qidong modules.

  4. Hull entered dry dock in Nantong

    Critical inspections and structural work started; the primary source specifies the month only.

  5. Drilling and completions contract announced

    Halliburton received the long-term integrated well-construction scope.

  6. Target first oil

    Offshore installation, commissioning and start-up preparations are progressing toward the current target.
