Company Overview
Saipem S.p.A. is a Milan-headquartered global energy engineering contractor founded in 1957. Its activities span subsea works, offshore facilities, onshore energy projects and drilling services. According to the company’s Annual Report 2025, Saipem operates in more than 50 countries, has five fabrication yards, 17 owned construction vessels and 12 drilling rigs, nine of them owned, and employs more than 30,000 people.
Saipem and Subsea7 have announced a proposed combination. As of 31 July 2026, the waiting period under the U.S. Hart-Scott-Rodino Act had expired, while regulatory approvals in other jurisdictions remained in progress.
Business Models and Execution Capabilities
Saipem’s role varies by contract. In Guyana, it has participated in subsea delivery for Liza Phase 1, Liza Phase 2, Payara, Yellowtail, Uaru, Whiptail and Hammerhead, and has received a limited notice to proceed for Longtail. In Brazil, Suriname, Angola, Mozambique and Indonesia, its work spans FPSO delivery, subsea facilities, transportation and installation, and onshore LNG engineering.
